Artist Biography: Marianne Dailey

About The Artist:

Marianne Dailey was born in 1976, on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Art was always a core part of her life. Her mom constantly took her to the theater and museums and encouraged her to observe the world from a different perspective. This early exposure to the arts led her to develop an open mind and kept biases from weighing down her own ideas about the world. She began taking art classes at a young age and throughout high school she continued experimenting on her own, expressing herself through a variety of mediums and techniques, such as collage, clay sculpture and metalwork. She was often distracted by her love of math and science - currently she is employed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - but her gift insisted that she keep sketching and creating.

After graduating from Mary Washington College with a B.S. in Psychology and a few art classes under her belt, she moved to Dallas and began studying art with Lindsay Shafer. Together, they developed a new technique in mixed medium, which they refer to as "amplified" painting. Amplified painting involves the application of plaster and acrylics to add depth and vibrant texture with a bold use of colors. Both artists have continued honing this technique and their individual styles since the late 90's.

In 2002, Marianne displayed her artwork at the Blue Tree Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA. This is her first show in the DC area. She looks forward to sharing her unique view of the world and hopes never to be tagged with a single medium, but instead to progress with each piece that comes into existence and to evolve to greater levels of expression.
